Guidelines

California Presidential Primary
  • The last day to register to vote for the March 5, 2024, Presidential Primary Election is February 20, 2024.

  • All California active registered voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the March 5, 2024, Presidential Primary Election.

  • Your county elections office will begin mailing ballots by February 5, 2024.

  • Ballot drop-off locations open on February 6, 2024.

  • Vote-by-mail ballots can be returned by mail, at a drop-off location, or your county elections office.

  • ​Vote centers open for early in-person voting in all Voter’s Choice Act counties beginning on February 24, 2024.

  • Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by March 12, 2024.

  • Check if you are registered to vote.

  • Check where you are registered to vote.

  • Check your political party preference.

  • Check your language preference for election materials.

  • Check the status of your vote-by-mail or provisional ballot.

Change my political party

In order to change your political party preference, you must re-register to vote.  You can re-register to vote by completing a voter registration application online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov

Tracking your vote-by-mail ballot—when it is mailed, received, and counted—has never been easier. The California Secretary of State is now offering Where’s My Ballot?—a way for voters to track and receive notifications on the status of their vote-by-mail ballot.  Where’s My Ballot lets voters  know where their ballot is, and its status, every step of the way.
